SCRIP INFORMATION AND FAQ'S
Scrip

What is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase Scrip, you’re purchasing gift cards and gift certificates that are used just like cash. You can use Scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our organization.  The Great Lakes Scrip Center (GLSC) acts on behalf of non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of Scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the Scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our organization buys the Scrip from GLSC at a discount, and re-sells it to families like yours for full face value. The discount - from one to twenty five percent - is our organization’s revenue.  Scrip is a popular PTO fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Organization members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway.

How does my family purchase Scrip?
ShopWithScrip.com is the online ordering system that our organization uses to gather your Scrip orders. This site offers you convenience - you can now order Scrip from any internet-connected computer at home, school, or office. Any family can use ShopWithScrip - however, to place orders, you have to create a free account at ShopWithScrip.com.  To place an order, you can shop right from your Family Dashboard.  As you finish, just print out the order confirmation page, and send it into the school with your check made out to “S.T.A.R.S.”, memo line “PTO – Scrip.”   Now families can also pay on-line using Great Lakes Scrip Center's PrestoPay™ payment system. Doing so eliminates your need to drop off a check for your order - more convenience, fewer steps, easier fund raising!  If you don't have online access, you can download a paper order form here (link forthcoming) for printing out.  There are so many Scrip retailers, they cannot all be included on a one page form, and of course, the various limited time bonus rebate offers cannot be reflected on a static form.  Also, a limited inventory of some of the most popular cards is usually available for purchase in the school office.

How do we register?
First open up your web browser, and go to www.ShopWithScrip.com. To register a new account, go to the green Family Sign Up box on the left side, and click "Create Account".  Follow the simple registration instructions and accept the terms and conditions of using the site.  Before you can place an order, you must enter our organization's enrollment code, L32D871D7873 , when prompted. (If you copy and paste, make sure there are no punctuation marks.)  By associating this code with your newly created account, the ShopWithScrip system will correlate your shopping activity with our non-profit organization. You can manage your account through the Family Dashboard. To access your Dashboard, click "My Account," at the top of any page.

The order dates for the 2010-1011 school year are the following Tuesdays:

When are orders processed, and when will we receive our order?
Orders can be placed online or turned in to the school office on any day.  They are held, online or in the office, until the next scheduled order date when they are processed.  Paper orders must be into the office by noon of the Tuesday order date; after that, the coordinator will not have them in time to be included in that week's order. Online orders must be placed by 5pm of the order date.  Again, after that, the coordinator will not have them in time to be included in that week's order.  You can choose to have the completed order sent home with your child, or you can pick it up in the school office between 2:30 – 3:00 pm on the Friday immediately after the Tuesday order date.

There are six easy ways to order online:

  • Favorites:  Order the same products each week? Add these items to your Favorites list for easy ordering in the future.
  • Express Add:  Know exactly what you want or need a quick search? Quickly add the items to your cart using this feature.
  • Reload:  Don't want to wait for your card to be shipped? Easily add funds to selected cards here.  Use PrestoPay and you have the funds reloaded to the card in 24 hours.
  • Specials:  Want to order the best discounts possible?  Add these items to your cart directly from the specials list.
  • Browse: Looking for a gift? Not sure what's available?  Use this feature to shop by category.
  • ScripNow!™:  Need it fast?  With this newest feature, you can order, pay for, print and use eCards within minutes if you use  PrestoPay.

What is PrestoPay?
PrestoPay™ is similar to online bill pay systems with which you may already be familiar.  It is not a credit card system, since credit cards reduce the program's ability to raise money. Instead, PrestoPay™ uses the safe and reliable NACHA electronic funds transfer system which is just as secure, and much more affordable. To use PrestoPay™, you simply register your account information once in a secure environment, and then verify it again a few days later. Meanwhile, GLSC has the Scrip Coordinator verify that you are a member family of our organization.  From then on you can elect to pay with PrestoPay™ when you place an order, and pay a modest convenience fee of $.39 each time.  If you have activated PrestoPay, you always have the option to pay by paper check instead.  To learn more, simply log on to ShopWithScrip.com and click on the PrestoPay™ link in the left side navigation bar of your account dashboard. There you'll find additional information in two short video tutorials.

We really don't purchase many gift cards. Is it really going to make a difference whether or not my family participates?
We aren't asking any family to spend a penny more than they would normally.  If you typically shop at Giant, please consider purchasing Giant Scrip cards to pay for your groceries.  If you purchase gas at WaWa, lunch from Panera, or see movies at an AMC theater, purchase a WaWa, Panera, or AMC gift card.  You can also purchase Scrip for online retailers like iTunes and Amazon.com.  If you buy gift cards for birthdays or holidays, purchase the cards through our Scrip program.  Browse the www.ShopWithScrip.com website to see which retailers participate, and look for ways you can use Scrip.  If each family purchased $200 in Scrip cards each month, Stars PTO could earn over $20,000 this school year!

Who do i contact about Scrip?
There is a lot of information on the ShopWithScrip.com website, and you can contact our Scrip Coordinator, Mrs. Peggie Ramey, cmr22191@yahoo.com , with any questions relating to the Scrip program.  This is truly easy school fund raising while you shop.
